Curiosity

Be curious, active participants in their learning, motivated to engage and understand the wonders of the world around them.

Topics and modules have been chosen to reflect real and meaningful experiences, from the world around the pupils. It gives opportunities to extend the learners understanding beyond what is immediately apparent. The topics within the rolling programmes are designed to increase pupils’ understanding and experience in the things that will impact their lives on a day to day basis.

The topic is about providing varied contexts for learning, through which the teachers can choose what to teach and how to teach it. The content of each topic or module is designed to be used in a ‘PicknMix’ fashion, so learning can be an individualised and personalised journey.

Termly topics are in place from Early Years to 14-19 to enable learners to focus on their Learning Map targets and practice skills through exciting and meaningful learning opportunities.

The emphasis is on concrete and relevant learning with few abstract concepts within the curriculum design. In the choice of topics, thought has also been given to the geographical location of our school, e.g pupils will learn about the beach and the local environment rather than about mountains or volcanos.
